What are Suffix Number Plates?

Suffix registration plates were the first type of plates brought in to have a year identifier contained within their digits. This age signifying letter was placed at the end of the registration, making it much easier for the vehicle to be dated.

This system was implemented in 1963 and ran up until August 1983 where they were replaced with the prefix style. If your vehicle was first registered after 1983 then you will be able to use any suffix plate, however if it was registered between this time frame you will need to make sure you use only the same or earlier year dates in the plate.

Typical suffix number plates will always have three letters at the beginning, followed by up to three numbers and then an age identifier at the end.
