Put Your Private Reg Plate Onto Retention
It may be useful to know that if you have a personalised number plate on a car that you are no longer using or you wish to remove it from the car that is registered to, you can put your private reg plate onto retention through the DVLA’s simple process.
The personalised number plate will be held in the name of the registered keeper for up to 10 years. This will need to be removed before the car is sold or destroyed to ensure you do not lose the number plate.
The vehicles original registration number will be reassigned to it once the private number plate is removed.
Your number plate can be removed immediately if applied for online, this can be done here on the DVLA website and costs £80.
