A range of number plates which feature the word "Manx" has so far raised £300,000 to spend maintaining the Isle of Man's roads.

The Department of Infrastructure said more than 700 "Manx" registration numbers have been sold since they were released in December.

The number plates start from £5,000 with the more sought-after numbers expected to raise about £100,000.

If all the number plates are sold they could generate £12m for government.

The number plates can be reused and moved from one vehicle to another, or be placed on to a retention certificate for up to a year.

A standard number plate can be purchased on the Isle of Man for £22, but no MANX number plates can be used on mainland UK registered vehicles.
