League table shows that England can only manage a disappointing seventh place

With the World Cup about to begin in Brazil, England have only managed seventh place in a very different competition – the search to find the priciest football number plates.

Data revealed by the DVLA shows that the number plate EN61 AND sold for just £12,000 in July 2012. That's £45,000 less than the table-topping number plate of WE57 HAM, which went for £57,000 back in October 2007.

Joint second in the league were AR53 NAL and HU11 CTY, which both fetched £36,000 when they were sold in October 2004 and March 2013 respectively.

And sitting in fourth place was the number plate V1 LLA, referring to Aston Villa, which took a total of £35,000 when it was sold 14 years ago.

Since the DVLA started selling personalised registrations 25 years ago, more than £2 billion has been raised for HM Treasury.

Roads Minister Stephen Hammond said: “Many football fans want to show their support for their team in all aspects of their life, and displaying a number plate that links them to their club is a fun way to do this.”

We've got some fantastic Football Plates available including S41 NTS (Saints) & UN11 TEO (United).
