Jersey Car Number Plate Sales Could Earn £100k
The sale of sought after vehicle number plates could earn Jersey's government £100,000 a year.
Currently islanders are able to keep their plates when selling vehicles or request specific plates for their vehicles by paying a fee.
Deputy Kevin Lewis, Transport and Technical Services Minister, has suggested auctioning popular plates to earn money for the States.
The proposition is due to be debated by States in September.
The current arrangements are not enshrined in law and the proposals suggest the registration plates are sold by auction, tender or at a set amount.
The department could choose to release certain plates, not already available, for sale as well as those that are no longer in use.
A similar scheme launched in Guernsey last year generated more than £100,000 for the island.
