According to a report carried out by the Road Safety Foundation, the A18 from Laceby to Ludborough has the ‘most persistent high risk’. In fact, the number of fatal crashes increased dramatically over a short time period; 10 occurred between 2008 and 2010 and 17 between 2011 and 2013.
So, why is this road so dangerous? The report revealed that the A18 has characteristics, such as the stretch being winding and narrow as well as rural and tree-lined, which are likely to cause crashes.

A36
The A36 from the A3090 to Totton, Hampshire is the second most dangerous stretch of road in Britain. Serious accidents rose from 12 to 16 between the two three-year periods mentioned.
The Road Safety Foundation found that road junctions caused 44% of these crashes and 33% involved pedestrians and cyclists.

The A588 from Blackpool to Lancaster is another extremely dangerous road. The 17-mile stretch of road has seen a shocking number of accidents over the last few years, with 22 between 2008 and 2010 and 26 between 2011 and 2013.
The Road Safety Foundation discovered that 50% of these accidents involved pedestrians or cyclists and 19% were at junctions or cars leaving the road.

The A44 from from Llangurig to Aberystwyth is the 4th most dangerous road in Britain and the most dangerous in Wales.
This road is so dangerous that it has a ‘risk rating’ of 166.6%; now that’s high, right? 54% of all accidents that happened between 2011 and 2013 were ‘run-offs’, which is when a vehicle leaves the road due to swerving to avoid colliding or loss of control.

Crewe’s A532 is another infamous risky road in Britain. It seems that A-roads are the most dangerous roads of all. The chairman of Road Safety Foundation, Lord Whitty, has actually said that travel on A-roads has become eight times more risky than on motorways.
